Beth Orcutt

Beth Orcutt

Senior Research Scientist, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences

Beth is a Senior Research Scientist at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in Maine, where she leads the Deep Biosphere Laboratory and the Crustal Ocean Biosphere Research Accelerator. Her research is focused on understanding the diversity and function of microbial communities in the deep sea and below the seafloor to inform policy making. Beth obtained her Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from the University of Georgia Athens. She will be part of the ship-board science of the Luʻuaeahikiikapapakū expedition (NA134) as part of this project.

Amy Gartman

Amy Gartman

Research Oceanographer, U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center

Amy is a Research Oceanographer at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Santa Cruz, California, where she leads the USGS Global Marine Minerals Resources project. Her work focuses on the geochemistry of marine minerals including all aspects of water- rock interactions such as precipitation, alteration, and the role of nanoparticles in mineral accumulation. Amy obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Delaware. She is a shore-based collaborator of the Luʻuaeahikiikapapakū expedition (NA134) as part of this project.

Kira Mizell

Research Oceanographer, U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center

Kira is Research Oceanographer at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Santa Cruz, California. She is part of the USGS Global Marine Minerals Resources project team. Her work focuses on the formation mechanisms and distribution factors for marine mineral oxide deposits that occur in the deep ocean, especially ferromanganese crusts, manganese nodules, and phosphorites. Kira obtained her Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a shore-based collaborator of the Luʻuaeahikiikapapakū expedition (NA134) as part of this project.
