"Flame" at Prometheus Vent with Ash Production
Prometheus vent lies about 100 m (330 feet) NE of Hades vent at the summit of West Mata volcano at a depth of 1177 meters (3860 feet). Prometheus often displayed a glowing area that resembled a flame but it is more likely a lava pool that sheds skins of lava as its surface and is continuously quenched.
