Chimney morphology varies widely and evolves as chimneys grow and become more complex over time. Several factors including fluid composition, biota, and flow dynamics influence how a chimney forms. This mostly extinct vent field is the tallest and most dense field of structures we have encountered during the cruise, and shows some of the variation that occurs in chimney morphology.
