This is a piece of basalt that was taken off the ocean floor in the Gulf of Alaska. These dots are all crystals, and these crystals look a little old and rotten, but these look fresher and cleaner. So now we are going to make a couple more cuts, and make this into a rectangle. You can see that it is reasonably thin already.
