Dr. Edie Widder : Advice for the Future
I have a couple of quotes. The first is from my father, who said “Learn something new everyday”, and I do try to do that. The other I got from one of the submersible crew who said this to me when one of my pieces of equipment flooded and I was standing there looking at seawater. He said “You know, success in life is how well you handle plan B. Anyone can handle plan A.” My advice to students who would like for do this career is, by all means, go for it. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best job in the world. It's not easy though, you are going to have to work very hard and do things that a lot of students don't want to do, which is working really hard on the math, the basics, the physics, the chemistry. You have to have the basics, but boy, is it worth it.
