Jeremy Weirich: Introduction

My name is Lieutenant Jeremy Weirich and I am a Marine Archeologist with NOAA's Office of Ocean Exploration. Today I am here in Silver Springs, Maryland at NOAA's Headquarters. As a marine archaeologist, working for NOAA's Office of Exploration I oversee all the marine archaeology and mapping projects for the office. We have proposals that come in and we support scientists throughout the world on helping them look and explore and investigate new shipwrecks or inundated landscapes throughout the world. My role when I am out at sea and out of the office doing marine archaeology work varies. In some cases I operate sonar equipment to help find shipwrecks. Other times I help operate ROV's or run navigation systems. Then other times it's just data management or whatever needs to be done. Often times with our ocean projects, we're required to be 'Jack of all Trades' and that's what we try to do.
